LA Trend Watch: Wine Touching

I just had the girliest weekend ever and I swear I have #noregrets. Primrose and I went out with a few of our dear friends to do some wine tasting, get manicures, and just total gossip about our love lives non-stop. It was so amazing and EXACTLY the kind of weekend I needed to relax and detox.

You see recently things with A have been a little rough. He’s been acting a little distant ever since I told him he needed to choose between me or his wife… and I was seriously worried for a while that I wouldn’t be the one! Luckily after this weekend I feel revived and ready to win him over. Relationships can be so daunting but honestly with a little hard work they can become something truly amazing.

Anyways! Back to the point of all this: I learned something so amazing while wine tasting this weekend. It’s called vino touching and it’s the hottest new trend around. A couple of high end wine bars that we went to were all recommending it!

The concept is sooo simple- you just dip your fingers into your glass and feel the temperature and texture of the wine BEFORE you drink. It totally 100% changed my wine tasting experience. You see, by exposing an extra sense to the experience of the tasting, you allow your mind to open up and see all the facets of the drink.

My favorite to touch was a 2009 Bordeaux from St. Emilion. The temperature was cool- but not chilled- while the texture was fluid and liquiform. It also had an even paced drip down my fingers when I held them vertically (the guy pouring told us that was the sign of a great wine).

Anyone in the LA area should try this immediately! My only recommendation is wash your hands first 😉

I saw some people doing this at a winery in New Zealand (where I live) about a month ago and I had no idea what was going on. I just thought they were being weird. Now I know that I was witnessing the beginning of a trend! Thanks Phyllis! Love from NZ!

I would love to do a touch test between white and red, I bet the temperatures really say a lot and help the flavors.

I would do this but I’ve been off the drink for 3 weeks now! But if Phyllis recommends a relapse, then maybe I could have a little sip 😉

Actually, I went to a famous spa outside of Seoul and they have a similar thing where they soak your feet in rice liquor and then tell your fortune based on the temperature of the rice liquor. I think this would be really innovative.

I already feel like the types of wine that I touch say so much about me. I recommend you try wine foot baths also.!
