Just Your Average Girl | Amelia McGee

I am so pleased to announce that Des Geulasse will be starting a new, incredibly moving series: Just Your Average Girl. We’ll be interviewing everyday women from around LA and getting a glimpse into their average lives. It took a while to start finding the right kind of women for this series, but I think you will all be OBSESSED with everyone once we get rolling.

Without further ado, let me introduce you all to completely average Amelia McGee!!

Phyllis: Hi Amelia, thank you so much for being apart of this Des Geulasse series.

Amelia: It is my pleasure! When I first met you and your sister Phyllis I knew I wanted to be a part of your work. When I saw both of your Instagram feeds I could tell we were all soul sisters in our lifestyles.

Phyllis: Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Amelia: I’m a total flower child, like Mother Nature is so for me. I believe in things like the environment, and love and recycling whenever possible. I do my best to only purchase fair trade, organic food and clothing. My main motto is waste not want not.

Phyllis: Thank you for saying so. Well first off, tell us about your day to day.

Amelia: Well I usually wake up around 8am and driving to Blue Bottle Coffee on Abbott Kinney for a cappuccino. I live in a little studio apartment next to the beach so it’s not a long drive- but parking always takes an extra 20 minutes of idling in the street while I wait for a spot to open. Once I have my coffee I will take a photo for Instagram. Then, by maybe 9:30, I’ll meet up with a few of my girlfriends for brunch. One of our favorite places is République- do you know it? It’s a top pick by Jonathan Gold and honestly I would eat dirt if J. Gold said it was in his LA top 100. Brunch we always go crazy- we all get at a main course but we try and split an appetizer or two (it looks better in photos, duh!). After brunch I try and take a hike.Again, I am a flower child so being outdoors is really important to me. I love Runyon Canyon, you may have heard of it? Sometimes I find a dog to take with me- so cute!  Midday I save for me time. And then at night I will usually go on a date or meet up with my girlfriends again for happy hour and appetizers. I literally live off appetizers. And, of course, I Instagram every second of my day so everyone knows what I’m up to.

Phyllis: What a busy schedule! When do you go to work?

Amelia: Yes.

Phyllis: Tell us about your beauty routine?

Amelia: I’m a big fan of eating well. I drink a 50 Shades of Green from Kreation usually once a day- and if I’m feeling lucky I’ll treat myself to one of their Juice Shots as well. These are sooo good for the skin. It keeps me glowing. I don’t need makeup because I have a naturally smooth complexion, but sometimes I’ll put on false eyelashes and teeth.

Phyllis: Can you describe your personal style to us?

Amelia: I would call my style a mix of 70s princess meets Elizabeth Taylor meets a Stock Photography image, you know? Like I’m all about billowing fabrics and soft material but I also am crazy about sleek elegance.

Phyllis: It’s so interesting hearing about a completely normal life similar to mine- it’s reassuring to know I’m not alone! Thank you so much for your time, Amelia.

Amelia: Thank you, Phyllis and all of Des Geulasse!

Such an inspiration! I wish I could have an average life like her. Unfortunately I have to work and have budget-friendly homemade coffee and meals each day. Oh, and I can only post on Instagram on weekends since my daily life is SO not pretty. Gosh, why can’t I have a pretty life like Amelia?? If I wore flowers in my hair to work I would totally get fired since I work in a criminal court room as a court reporter. It feels kind of discriminatory against my inner flower child, don’t you think? Isn’t that like religious discrimination???? Like, what kind of world is this???? Peace.
