As I’m sure you all have heard, Cleveland Fashion Week was out of this world this year- and I’m not just talking about designer Peiter Von Gabrielle’s martian inspired ear muffs. Thanks to my elite blogger status, I had a front row seat to 3 of the most incredible runway shows I have EVER attended and I can say with 75% certainty that fashion in 2017 will be better than it was in 1876, 1922, 1975, 1987, 1991 and 2011 COMBINED.
While UlrIque’s spring line was a fairy princess dream, and House of Espionage revealed some of the sultriest trenches known to fashion… it was Lauren’s Ghost, an up and coming designer from South Korea, that really stole my heart.
Lauren’s Ghost’s lead designer, Song Hye-kyo, said in an interview that she was “inspired by old videos [she] would see of the streets of America, where rich women would get attention from men and women carrying red paint- but oftentimes the people with the paint would get so excited about the rich woman they would accidentally spill their paint on their lovely fur coats”. It was those encounters that first inspired Song Hye-kyo to design. She wanted to capture the moment where ordinary people become clumsy in the presence of wealth, and how a meeting like that can leave behind physical marks.
The line is called PETA Vic.- vic being short for victim- and though I originally thought the use of heavy fur coats would have fit better in a Winter line, Song Hye-kyo 100% changed my mind! Her layering of bikinis under the thick, paint splattered coats was just brilliant. I could just see myself sporting the same look while lounging by a pool or at the beach. I must say, I was especially fond of her giraffe trench with a linen lining- so cute!
Though the line is currently only available in Seoul, it should be making it’s way to the US soon. Until then watch out for knockoffs if you try to purchase online!
