DIY Baby Career Reveal Cake

My boyfriend A and I have been getting into all sorts of arguments and disagreements recently and it’s honestly been really upsetting. At first I thought it was because of the full moon (him being a Gemini and all) but when I started to push him to talk he finally dropped a major bomb… His wife is pregnant. AGAIN. I was beyond shocked- here he won’t even give me an engagement ring but he’s all ready to give her a baby? It’s like, hello? Where are you priorities?

Needless to say we’ve been taking a little cool-off period the last couple days to give each other some time to breathe and think things through (A’s suggestion). It’s been hard not texting him all the time, and since my sister, Primrose, is currently too obsessed with her S.O., C (if you all haven’t read the C Section yet, I don’t recommend it. Prim convinced me that C needs his own platform to blog but I find it so offensive) I’ve been incredibly lonely! Luckily I’ve been using my time wisely: since one of my resolutions is to be more understanding, I’ve been taking my cool-off time to find a way to show A I’m totally not mad that his wife is having another child.

I’ve decided to throw A and his wife a little celebration in honor of the pregnancy….

A Baby Career Reveal Party!

It’s a lot like the gender reveal except it is WAY more important. The party is the perfect way to announce to friends and family what your child is going to grow up to be and it is all the rage in Nanaimo right now, let me tell you.

All you need is to bake a cake and fill it with items that people associate with certain careers. Want a doctor for a baby? Throw a stethoscope in there! Want a pop star? Bake in a microphone and a couple CDs! Want a fashion designer? Easy, just add a few sewing needles (though warn your guests about those, sometimes they can be so hard to see. Hah!).

I think A’s baby will definitely run a nail salon someday, hence why I baked nail polish into the cake!

I WISH my parents had thought of doing this for me, I feel like my life would have been so much easier if I had known when I was born what my career was going to be… Now I’m almost 40 and still trying to figure it out!

Uhhg this is the activity I needed at the baby shower I threw last weekend for my dear friend Miriam. I just know her son is going to be a hazardous waste specialist, that would have been a really fun cake to bake!
